Dear Established and Aspiring Book Authors,
I decided to update the guidelines myself as this publication (ILLUMINATION Book Chapters) is close to my heart. I understand the aspirations and struggles of book authors. Therefore, I established it in 2021 to support authors and create a collaborative community on this platform.
As our community grows rapidly and publication workloads significantly increase, I decided to improve our submission guidelines, clarify our goals, and ensure the rules are easy to understand. All our publications now have the same goals, policies, and strategic directions.

All book authors and writers who plan to write books are welcome to join this publication on Medium. You can send your Medium ID through our writer registration portal.

What is unique about the book chapters and our plans
This publication can be a valuable stepping stone, allowing you to refine your manuscript through beta readers’ feedback and preparing it for potential publishing opportunities.
You must possess the copyright for the book chapters you publish in this outlet. We require an articulated statement of copyright ownership as part of your submission.
We encourage three types of submissions for this publication. You can submit draft submissions of your published or unpolished book chapters, book reviews of other authors, and testimonials for book authors, story writers, or poets. You can add a link to the original version of your book with your writer’s profile and a link to your website.
Although Medium supports book authors, book chapters do not perform as effectively as stories, according to my observations. When I reviewed my stats last month, I noticed that chapters of my recent book Substack Mastery for beta readers received far fewer views than my other stories.
In 2021, I used to create weekly curated lists to introduce them to our readers, but due to the excessive load of other publications, I couldn’t do that. In 2025, I want to focus more on this publication to create visibility for book chapters published in it. I will also find ways to create visibility for your book chapters on Substack, which I will explain in a bulletin soon.
Although the landscape of formats and delivery methods may transform, books’ essence remains timeless and enduring. Now, Medium also promotes book authors by assigning a badge to their profiles.
I established this publication to empower published authors by increasing their prospects of attracting new followers and fans who appreciate their content and even want to purchase their books. I also though that it could be a great tool for aspiring writers to publish some chapters of their upcoming books.
Given the expansive pool of contributing writers across the ILLUMINATION network, this distinctive service can immensely benefit published and aspiring book authors.
As accomplished authors amass new followers and fans, they also gain the opportunity to monetize their existing content on Medium while following copyright regulations and Medium’s publishing guidelines.
One of the defining aspects of our approach is our commitment to genre diversity and inclusivity. Authors are welcome to submit fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. There is no topic constraint in this publication.
You are welcome to submit unpublished manuscripts. In addition to offering a platform for showcasing your books, our secondary objective is to facilitate writers’ journey toward becoming fully-fledged published authors.

We aim for high quality but don’t insist on perfection. We are practical and believe every writer can improve with feedback from readers, editors, and peers. Our main goal is to provide our subscribers with a pleasant and satisfying reading experience.
A Summary of Key Points for Draft Submissions
Reader-centric writing: Put the reader first when writing your stories. Consider what they want to know and how you can best communicate your message.
Value to the reader: Your story should be informative and engaging. It should provide the reader with something new or valuable to learn. We don’t accept copy and paste from the web or generative AI tools.
Clarity and readability: Your writing should be easy to understand and follow. Our readers expect simple language and explanation of technical or scientific terms.
Valuable reading experience: Your writing should be a pleasure to read. It should be well-organized and easy to follow. Submit stories that you want to read yourself.
Honesty in writing: Our readers expect truthful and accurate content. Your story shouldn’t mislead or deceive the reader. Honesty and integrity are our key values in all ILLUMINATION Integrated Publications.
Rigorous content: Your writing should be well-researched and supported by evidence. In addition to telling the reader what you think, you may also show them why you think so.
Self-editing for error-free submissions: Take the time to self-edit your work carefully before submitting it. This will help you catch language errors. Your submission should be free of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
Proper formatting: Your draft should be formatted correctly and be appealing to the eye. This includes using the correct font, size, and proper headings. Photos in your drafts should be relevant to the topic and appropriate for the audience. Please check our photo handling policy.
No AI-Generated Content: Except for the Lampshade of ILLUMINATION, our publications don’t accept AI-generated content. You may learn about our AI writing policy.
